Effectiveness of complementary therapies for the management of symptom clusters in palliative care in pediatric oncology: a systematic review

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of complementary therapies in management symptom clusters children and adolescents with cancer undergoing palliative care. Method: Systematic review guided by Preferred Reporting Items for Reviews Meta-Analyses, resorting to databases MEDLINE, Web Science, Central Cochrane, PsycINFO. The identification, selection, inclusion, extraction, methodological assessment were conducted two independent reviewers. Results: Five quasi-experiments met eligibility criteria. heterogeneous characteristics studies made meta-analysis impossible. Two used therapeutic massage, one Reiki, boswellic acid, Cannabis sativa; three them (therapeutic massage Reiki) presented statistically significant results cluster pain-anxiety-worry-dyspnea. Most a moderate risk bias as per ROBINS-I tool. Conclusion: Therapeutic Reiki may be effective management, especially pain-anxiety-worry-dyspnea
